stash report

I have been taking a little break from the stash report, but there hasn't really been much to report as of late.  I've been doing quite a bit of sewing, but it has all been counted out already or I can't quite count it used yet.  I still don't have any finishes, but I do finally have some changes in my numbers in both directions.

Last week I met with the Quilting Angels and donated 3 yards of fabric that had been sitting on my shelf for years gathering dust, but I knew someone there would put it to good use.  I'm very pleased to say that a purple batik I brought in was the perfect border fabric for one of the quilts.  I was so happy to see it used instead of taking up space in my teeny, tiny house!!

I have decided that it is imperative that I stay out of quilt shops while on my self-imposed fabric diet!  Yesterday I went to a local shop with the DC Modern ladies and bought a little fabric.  It was so fun and I know what I'll do with most of it, so I'm not going to beat myself up about it.

The gray polka dots are for an online swap, the red was just too beautiful to stay in the store, and the umbrellas are for an I Spy quilt I will make one day for the boys.

See, not a lot of fabric.  I need to put the move on some projects though because next month Flea Market Fancy comes out and I'm going to allow myself to go a little crazy.  :)

I have two baby quilts I need to start soon as the two babies will be here before I know it, so that should help the numbers tremendously!  To see how everyone else did this week head over to Judy's.

Sunday Stash Report

The weeks just keep going by faster and faster!  I can't believe we are already at our last stash report of January!

I'm so pleased to share with you that I finally have some progress to report this week.  I finished my butterfly quilt top Thursday night!  See post here.  I was able to keep the momentum going and pieced the back and cut out the binding Friday night.  Now I just need to baste and quilt it!  I seriously doubt I will have this finished by the end of January for the UFO Challenge, but I'm so pleased with my progress.  I know it will be complete in the next couple of weeks! 

I also had to do a little shopping this week too.  I bought all of the Kona Snow at Capital Quilts yesterday, but unfortunately all they had in stock was 1 1/2 yards.  I need a lot more, but I figured I'd take what I could get.  Running out of Kona Snow is holding up a couple of my projects, so I'll definitely have to order more this week!  Anybody know of any good sales?

Sunday Stash Report

I can't believe another week has gone by!  So far, so good for my 2012 stash report.  Other than to drop off my machine for cleaning, I have stayed out of my local quilt stores and I've been deleting the online fabric store's emails as soon as I get them.  I figure if I need something I'll buy it, but no browsing!  It tends to just get me in trouble!

With my machine getting it's yearly check-up I haven't been sewing, but I've been a cutting fool!

I have more than enough purple tumblers cut out for a top that fits the qualifications for the Quilting Angels.  I think these will make a really pretty quilt!

I've also started cutting out triangles.  Not as many as the tumblers, but I'm sure I'll have enough for a quilt top by the end of the day.  The Go Baby cutter sure does make the cutting go fast! 

My only problem is I still have a ton of purple fabric leftover!  I had really wanted to eliminate more from my stash!  I'll have to think about what else I can do with it.

I also haven't decided how I'm going to count this fabric on the stash report.  I'm donating it, but I don't meet with the group again until later in the month.  I think I will count it out then!  See I have a rule that any fabric that comes into my house from them doesn't count.  So even if I bring one of these quilt kits home to work on later, they still technically aren't mine.  Does that make sense? 

So until I count anything out my numbers are the same as last week.

Stash Report #1 2012

Happy New Year Everyone!  I rang the new year in the same way I do every year: in my pjs, on the couch with my husband.  I was able to fit in a little sewing which I hope will be a trend for the rest of the year!

It's the first report of the year, so I get to start over with a clean slate.  My goals for this year are simple: I want to use more than I buy.  I was able to resist the end of the year sales I've received all week in my email.  Like the New Year's sewing, I hope this will be another trend for 2011!

For ease of reporting I think I'm going to continue not counting fabric out until I have completed a step: completed top, finished backing, and finally the binding.  I find that's less confusing. 

I have a good feeling about 2012!

Last Stash Report of 2011

Well I stuck to my guns and didn't buy any fabric this month!  I am very proud of myself!  Fortunately, I was so busy I really didn't have time to look at fabric sites or go shopping for anything other than Christmas presents.  I also didn't have a lot of time to sew either, so my stash busting numbers are still dismal.  Oh well, there's always 2012 right? 

I'm definitely doing the stash report again next year.  While I didn't bust my stash the way I had planned, reporting has been a very eye opening experience!  I always knew I bought a lot of fabric, but I had no idea how much!  This year was also a very busy one for us as a family especially with our new little guy, and his rough and tumble big brother!  Big fun of course, but I have had very little time to sew.  I'm hoping now that we are starting to develop more of a schedule as a family, I will find more time to spend in my sewing area!  I want 2012 to be the year of using my stash!  Of course I'm sure I will find some fabric that I must have, but I would like to try to be a little more thoughtful about my purchases!  Here's hoping!

Sunday Stash Report

Well, I have a pretty boring stash report this week.  I've been sewing, but I still can't count anything out.  The good news is, I haven't added anything.  I don't have any chance of being in the black before the end of the year, but with Christmas around the corner I really want to keep my fabric spending as close to zero as possible.  It is so easy to overspend this time of year, so I think fabric should be an easy thing to cut out.  I have a handfull of Christmas projects I want to make for my family, and I will only buy fabric if I need it to finish a project.  Honestly, I probably have enough Christmas fabric to sew for at least 3 families!  :)

That being said I have set all of my current WIPS aside to work on Christmas items for my family.  My objective today is to start cutting out the pieces for a tree skirt.  My husband has said twice this weekend that he would love for us to have a tree skirt this year (subtle, isn't he?).  We always get our tree the weekend after Thanksgiving, so I have to get working!

Yesterday I pulled out the squares I was working on earlier this year for a Christmas quilt.

I just love this line!  I'm not sure I'll be able to finish this before Christmas, but it is fun to pull these out and work on a couple at a time!  Hurst is really into snowmen lately, so he loves it!  I don't want to put too much pressure on myself, but it would so nice for him to be able to cuddle up in this quilt this season...

Has anyone else been bitten by the Christmas sewing bug yet?  I usually try to wait until after Thanksgiving, but I'm too excited this year!

I was so lucky to be able to fit in a lot of sewing this week.  Unfortunately, I can't count any of it out yet, but hopefully soon.  For the rest of the year I'm going to try to concentrate on finishing up my UFO's, Christmas gifts, and a couple of baby quilts.  That should keep me busy into the new year!  My sons and I finally seemed to get a napping schedule worked out, and they both slept at the same time!  That was a huge victory this week!  I'm hoping that continues because it really gave me some extra time in the sewing room!

I'm very happy to report that I had one finish this week!  It really has me itching to finish up my other projects.  I really want to start the year free of UFO's!

I did have a small addition to the stash this week.  I picked up four fat quarters for the butterfly blocks I have been working on.  It turns out I don't have many bright, little girl appropriate fabrics in my stash.  A quick trip to Hancock fabrics this week fixed that!  I must admit I have really enjoyed working on a quilt for a little girl.  I just found out that my cousin is expecting her first baby next spring.  I have my fingers crossed for a baby girl!

Sunday Stash Report

I missed last week's stash report, so hold on this is going to be a long one!  :)

Between battling bouts of my own and my children's illnesses (somehow my beloved husband always misses out on the fun) I have managed to get quite a bit of sewing done.  Unfortunately, I can't count any of it yet.  :(  That's okay though.  I'm using the stash and I'm having fun and that's what it's all about right?

I have joined a new sewing group that meets twice a month to sew for two organizations: Quilts for Kids (pediatric illnesses) and Quilts of Valor.  I've only been to one meeting so far, but it was FANTASTIC!  Everyone was so nice and welcoming.  They also didn't seem to be at all bothered that I'm an incredibly slow quilter!  I can't wait to go back on the 29th!  Using one of the groups many BOM patterns, I'm making butterflies:

My plan is to make 16 of these beauties sashed in black, and then an outer border.  I hope it will make a little girl very happy!  They make me happy everytime I make one!  This is the only new thing I have going on which is good since I have some many other unfinished projects!

I have also been doing quite a bit of shopping.  Last weekend I needed a little mommy time, so what's a girl to do, but go to the quilt store...

I had to buy some Terrain.  Seriously, it practically threw itself at me!  :)

I picked up these Ann Kelle pieces to add to my stash.  I'm slowly collecting her boy appropriate prints to make an I-Spy quilt for my boys.  I just love her designs!

Then I picked up some of the leaves from Little Apples.  I have no plans for these, but I thought they'd be good additions to the stash.  I would love to have the whole line, but right now it just isn't in the budget.  :(



I thought this print would work for a QOV that I'm planning to make in the New Year.  Right now I'm just in the planning stages, but I think it's going to be really cool!

This past Friday night I went to Joanne's armed with a coupon and came out with this:

Kona Black for the butterflies, Christmas fabric for this project, and some lemons because they were pretty!  What can I say?  I have no will power...

I had a great sewing week!  I did a little bit of sewing, and I made it through another week without adding anything to the stash!  You can't beat that!

I finished my quilt top for 100 Quilts for Kids Friday night with the DC Modern Quilt Guild.  What a fun group!  Now that baby boy Graham is a little older I hope to spend a lot more time with them!

Sunday Stash Report

No new finishes this week.  We were too busy tending to our leaky basement to do any sewing.  I'm hoping that's the last of the rain for a little while for this area!  We can't take much more!

With all the craziness I also didn't have time to shop, online or otherwise, this week.  I was very sad this week to hear that my favorite local quilt shop is closing.  When I told my husband, he said he was shocked they were closing their doors, after all, hadn't I been keeping them in business all these years?  (He thinks he's so funny...)  If you are lucky enough to have a local quilt store that you love, please try to shop there whenever you can!  I can't say how sad I am that I won't be able to go there when I have a few extra minutes on a Saturday to browse.  It was my favorite thing to do when the hubby was home and the boys were napping.  :(

Now that things have returned somewhat back to normal, I'm going to try to get some sewing in.  Although, our autumn activities are starting back up this week.  A new session of story times at the library and two playgroups start in full force starting tomorrow.  We'll see how much I get accomplished...

Unfortunately, I didn't get a lot of sewing accomplished this week.  The good news is I didn't do any fabric shopping either, so that counts as a victory in my book.  :)

I completely changed directions with the quilting on my Kaleidoscope.  I was doing "simple" straight, organic line quilting, but it never looks right when I do that.  I've decided to take the easy way out and do a simple meandering quilting design.  Still not perfect, but I think it looks more appropriate for this more traditional pattern and fabric.  So while I haven't been doing a lot of sewing, I have spent some quality time with my trusty seam ripper.  SIGH...

Hello!

Despite the two natural disaters in my neck of the woods this week (earthquake and hurricane...yikes) I've managed to get quite a bit of sewing done.  I basted and started quilting my Kaleidoscope.  I'm hoping to finish up the quilting this afternoon and attach the binding.  I think I might have a finish to show off really soon...

I also found some time to start working on my 100 Quilts for Kids project this week.  I'm using this awesome tutorial from Amanda Jean.  So far, So good!

I just love these fabrics!  I might even have enough left over to make one more quilt.  Maybe for the local NICU?

The best news is, all this sewing, and no shopping!!  Not that I need anymore fabric, but that's never stopped me before...

All in all, this has been a great week!  My family and property survived all nature threw at us with no problem.  We are so very lucky and thankful!

I can't believe that another week has flown by!  Before I know it, I'll be stressing out about Christmas! 

While I don't have any finishes to report, thanks to the extremely hot weather, lots of sewing has been going on.  It's way too hot and humid to be outside!  I have made good progress on the Kaleidoscope QAL, the Farmer's Wife QAL, and the Nicey Jane quilt I'm making for my aunt for her birthday.  Hopefully next week, I'll have at least one finish!

I added more to my Prince Charming fabric collection this week.  Three yards to be exact.  I just love this fabric line.  I'm still trying to find the perfect project to use it.  It would need to be design that really showcases large prints.  Any suggestions?

I'm not sure I will get a lot of sewing accomplished today.  I have all my usual Sunday household chores, the grocery store, and my cousin is coming to visit us today, so we are going to be busy.  I might have to wait until the boys are in bed tonight.  Oh well.  :(

Quick Stash Update

I have a very boring stash report this week.  Zero in, Zero out.  I'm still plugging away and getting lots of sewing done, but nothing finished yet.  I have way, way too many projects going right now, so in order to stay somewhat organized I'm setting some of them aside until later.

Right now I'm going to concentrate on two upcoming birthday quilts, The Farmer's Wife QAL, and the Kaleidoscope QAL.  This should keep me occupied for quite a while!

This has actually been a good sewing week for me!  Unfortunately, that has meant a lot of late nights, and very little housework.  Oh well, I caught up yesterday.  The house is nice and clean, and all of the laundry is washed and put away!!  To celebrate I think I will finally stop procrastinating and quilt my Super Nova quilt. 

While I have been sewing a lot, my quilting related ADD kicked in this week, and I have started two new projects!  I started to reorganize my fabric closet this week, and I just had to sew with some of it. 

Sadly, my two year old got his hands on our camera, so there will be no pictures of my progress so far.  He is quite a destructive little guy!  All I can do is tell you that I am working on a Christmas quilt out of a Fruitcake (Basic Grey) Jelly Roll and Charm pack I found way in the back of the closet (score!), and this quilt with my Pips!  My advice for anyone this week who wants to sew with something new, but doesn't want to buy anything:  go shopping in your stash!!  It really worked for me this week!

Well, kind of:  I did buy some solids to use for another new project...not so bad.  Solids are a necessity in my book...

Well, I finally get to add some numbers to the Used this week column of my stash report!  WooHooooo!

I finished my Super Nova quilt top, pieced the back, and cut out the binding.  I've decide to just mark all of it as used!  What a good feeling!  Not only are my numbers starting to move in the right direction, but I will soon have another beautiful quilt to add to my collection!

Now on to my least favorite part of the quilting process: basting!!  YUCK!

Sunday Stash Report

So, I can't be hemmed in by rules!!  Especially when it comes to new fabric lines that remind me of my childhood!  My husband said he appreciated my new clever excuse.  :)

When I saw the new Pooches and Pickups by Laurie Wisbrun I knew some of it would come to live in my house.  My children and I must have a picnic quilt made out of this fabric for the summer!

I grew up in a tiny little town in southern Virginia, and the only thing to do in the summers was go to the pool.  My father had an old red pickup truck exactly like the one in the fabric and he would drive us to the pool in it usually with our black lab in the back...see what I mean?  This fabric was made for me!  Of course, my father would find it hilarious that one of my favorite childhood memories is of that truck, I was always so embarrassed to ride in it! 

So, I didn't reach my goal of not buying any fabric until the quilt show next weekend, but that's okay.  I did go about three weeks with no purchases and that is pretty good for me!

And no, I still haven't finished my Super Nova quilt!  I'm ashamed by how much I'm NOT getting accomplished lately!!  I was making good progress earlier this week when disaster struck, and after that I lost steam.  If anyone has any suggestions for removing crayon from a WIP please let me know!  I was hoping to get some sewing time this weekend, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.  We just have too much going on.  Hopefully this week!

Well, I've learned my lesson about making predictions about my sewing output.  After last Sunday I was able to sew for about an hour, if that.  I forgot to take into consideration that my baby's birthday was this week and all the activities that would go with it!  I still can't believe that he's two...HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?

While I didn't get a lot of sewing accomplished, yet again I made no fabric purchases.  That is just going to have to be enough for me this week!  However, I am determined to have a finished quilt top by next Sunday Stash Report (will see if it works this time!)  After all, this coming Friday is Friday Night Sew in, and I've already made arrangements with the Hubs to have the night off!  Maybe I'll even (dare I say it?) piece the back?  Oh, maybe I won't get carried away!

I am very happy to report that I didn't make any fabric purchases this week.  I believe part of the reason I was successful was as soon as I received an email from stores offering discounts I deleted it immediately!  I'm hoping I can keep it up!

I am THIS close to finishing the top to my Super Nova quilt.  I seriously doubt I will have a finished quilt this week, but I'm hoping to be awfully close!  Stay tuned...

Sunday Stash Report

Welcome to another installment of Melanie's stash enhancement report!  What can I say, I really love fabric and when I see a good deal it is oh so hard to pass it up!

I think another strategy I will have to use in order to use my stash instead of buying new, is to stop receiving emails about sales.  They are just way too tempting!

This week I bought a fat quarter bundle of the entire Sherbet Pips line and I just love it!

I left it wrapped up in it's cute little package as long as I could, but earlier today I had to take it apart and admire it.  I have been in love with this line since it first came out and I am not disappointed!  I can't get over how cute it is!  My oldest kept asking to hug the doggie fabric.  I have a feeling I might have to share this quilt!  I'm not sure what I will do with it, but I know it will have to be something that really showcases the fabrics. 

As I was showing my husband the design from Moda Bake Shop I wanted to use to make his mother's quilt, he saw another pattern that he thought would be better.  I completely agreed with him, so I supplemented what I had already purchased to make this quilt instead.  I think this design will be perfect for Charlevoix!

I really can't wait to get started on this!  I really think my mother-in-law is going to flip!

Of course since I really love "Hexagon Park" by the very talented Lynne I decided to use it to make a Christmas quilt from the new line "Flurry" by Kate Spain.

One of my goals for the year is to start making my Christmas projects earlier rather than later, so that they actually get finished in time for the holiday season.  Here's hoping!

On the sewing front I am still plugging away on my Super Nova quilt.  It is taking longer than I'd hoped to complete, but I think I am going to love it!

In an effort to use all of this beautiful fabric instead of just buying it, I am challenging myself to not add anything to the stash until the quilt show in June.  I know that really isn't that long of a time, but I have to be realistic.  I don't think I can go to the quilt show and not buy fabric.
