Friday Night Sew In Results (A Little Late)

Well, a lot late!  Oh well, better late than never!

I didn't have a very productive sewing night, but I did accomplish a little.  Most of my evening was spent cutting out the rest of the background pieces for my Swoon quilt.  Sadly, I realized when I was cutting out the last squares that I was cutting them out wrong!  I might have very dangerously thrown my rotary cutter across the room...thankfully my children and dog were safe upstars when I threw that tantrum!!  I spent the rest of the evening sewing black sashing onto my butterfly quilt.

Sorry for the pictureless post, but after realizing I had messed up I was pretty grouchy!  Hopefully I'll have a finished quilt top to show soon!

I'm off to do a little more weekend sewing!

Friday Night Sew in Results

Well, I wasn't able to do as much as I wanted, but I did get quite a bit accomplished this evening.  I finished sewing my first block for the tree skirt and I love it and so does my husband!  We are both so excited to have a tree skirt this year!  Since we've been sharing a home we have wrapped the base of our tree with an old blanket from Ikea.  Well, not this year!

Sorry for the horrible pictures!  It's late and my sewing space is in the basement, so this is the best I could do.  I was also able to cut out one more block which really speeds up the process.

While sewing this evening I decided that this is not the best project to work on while sewing with the guild.  I, like most people I'm sure, usually end up talking more than sewing when I go to these meetings.  While this isn't a hard block to sew if I'm not paying attention, I'll sew it together incorrectly.  I learned this the hard way tonight when I had to take out the seam ripper twice because I was paying too much attention to HBO and not enough to my sewing!  All of that to say, tomorrow I'm working on my Fruitcake quilt.  At the rate I'm going I just might have a Christmas quilt this year!

So not a bad night of sewing considering I stopped in the middle to brush teeth, read bedtime stories, and make Cranberry Orange Bread.  Now I'm off to bed because it is way past my bedtime and I have an early, busy day tomorrow!

Hope everyone else had a successful night!

Friday Night Sew in

It's here again!  How is that possible?  The months go by quicker and quicker!  Tonight's post will be super fast because I have a really busy, jam packed quilty Saturday planned.  First, I am going to meet with the Quilting Angels for the blessing of the quilts they have made this year (I'm too new, I haven't completed anything yet), and then I'm rushing off to meet with the DC Modern Quilt Guild for a sewing day.  Needless to say, I can't wait!

Tonight I'm going to cut out pieces for my tree skirt to sew together tomorrow with the guild.  I'm hoping cutting out the pieces ahead of time will make the process go faster!  I only have about a week before Christmas tree season!  Wish me luck!

Is anyone else sewing tonight?

Friday Night Sew in Results

I'm a little (all right a lot) late reporting my sewing from Friday night, but today has been one of those non-stop days.  All of the things on the to do list have been fun, but still busy!

I wasn't very productive, but I did at least get the binding sewn on my table runner.

I pieced the top and quilted this runner last year around this time and then just completely dropped the ball when it came to the binding.  Not sure why, but it happens, right?  Needless to say, I'm thrilled that I will be able to use it this year!

We are leaving bright and early tomorrow morning to visit my parents in southern Virginia.  We are so excited because they really go overboard with the Halloween decorations every year, so I'm interested to see the boys reaction to them.  Some of it is scary, so will see how my 2 year old handles it.  I'm hoping he doesn't have nightmares all week...

Anyway, we will be in the car for 6 hours tomorrow (without traffic), so that should give me plenty of time to sew on the binding.

I hope everyone else had a productive Friday Night Sew in!

Friday Night Sew in

Ah, the best night of the month!  Even though I am exhausted from taking my children to the pumpkin patch today, I'm determined to do some sewing this evening!  The Hubs very kindly has taken the boys out to dinner, so I figure the least I can do is work on some UFO's and not nap.  :)

My goal tonight is to attach the binding to a Halloween table runner from last year and work towards finishing up the quilting on my Kaleidoscope quilt.  That should be easy enough to do, although I really want to start something new.  What is wrong with me?  We will see how much I accomplish before falling asleep.

Anyone else sewing tonight?

Friday Night Sew In

Thank goodness FNSI is here!  This past weekend was jam-packed with family fun, so no sewing happened at all!  I have been able to fit in a lot of sewing during naptimes and after the boys went to bed this week, so  I have managed to finish all the blocks for my Nicey Jane quilt.  I need to finish the quilt by Tuesday for my aunt's birthday, so that will be my focus for tonight.  Wish me luck!  Needless to say, tonight's going to be a late night!

Is anyone else staying out of the heat and sewing tonight?  If so, what are you working on?

Friday Night/Early Saturday Morning Sew In Results

I learned a very valuable lesson last night.  Never try to sew after a week of little sleep and caring for two sick children.  Don't do it!  It's a mistake!  As in you will keep making the same stupid sewing mistakes over and over again!!

That being said I did finally finish all of my Super Nova blocks last night/early this morning!

It's not perfect, but I can't help loving it!  I can't get over the beauty of these fabrics!  Can't wait until this one is finished!

After the boys go to bed for the night I will sew these together and start working on finishing the top.  I really, really hope to finish the top this weekend.  Wish me luck!

Friday Night Sew In

I have been looking forward to Friday Night Sew In for the last two weeks.  Unfortunately, I don't think it's going to happen.  :(

The boys had doctor's appointments this week, and it never fails that one of us ALWAYS brings home something!  Hurst and Graham have been sick since Monday!  My husband assures me that I'll have some time this evening for sewing, but unless he brings a sitter home with him from work, I'm not optimistic!

I'm still plugging away at the Super Nova Quilt!  Only one more block to go and all the blocks will be assembled!  Maybe a miracle will happen and I will have a quilt top to reveal this weekend!

I'm sure I'll just be up to my elbows in dirty diapers and vomit all weekend though!

Hope everyone else has successful sewing weekends!

Friday Night Sew In: The Results

Well unlike last month I was able to accomplish quite a bit last night.  I think the trick might be getting the boys out of the house!  I was very proud of myself for actually sewing instead of taking a bubble bath or watching "girlie" stuff on tv or any other activity I enjoy doing when I am boyless!!  It was such a nice feeling!

I now have five of the first set of blocks together.  After the kids are asleep tonight I am going to try to finish more.  I can't decide if I should follow Lee's pattern exactly as written or if I should add another row and make the quilt a little bigger.  It would take a little longer, but I have the extra fabric and I think it would be more useable for us if it were bigger...I'll have to see how long it takes me to complete the nine blocks first before I decide to go bigger!

I think all of them are gorgeous, but this is my favorite:

I love the red and the gray and red print!  I think they are my favorites from the line!

I had such a great time and I would love to sew more right now, but little Graham is waking up from his little cat nap and I know he's going to be hungry!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Friday Night Sew In

The boys are off to dinner with Daddy,

and I have a long overdue date with my Super Nova Quilt Top.

I love you Friday Night Sew in!  I adore my family, but I am so excited to be alone in my own home!  I don't remember the last time this happened!

FNSI Results

Sadly, I didn't get a lot done last night for Friday Night Sew In.  I started at around 7:00 and by 8:00 my husband was calling for me from the basement because my toddler was sick.  Needless to say, instead of an evening of sewing it was an evening filled with vomit and tears...

My poor husband tried to handle it himself, but Hurst wanted his mommy.  I, of course, couldn't refuse him!

I did get a little accomplished though:

I cut out and started piecing my Just One Star block.

One more strip set for the Postage Stamp Quilt.  The good news is I'm a little more interested in working on this one.  Hopefully I'll have some time tonight after the little ones go to sleep.

Oh well, there's always next month!

Hope everyone else's evenings were a little more productive!

Friday Night Sew In

I can't believe it's already Friday!  Fridays are made even sweeter when it's Friday Night Sew In time!  I can't wait: no babies, no dishes, no cooking!  Just me and the sewing machine!

I have quite a few projects to work on this evening:

  1. I finally finished cutting out my Nicey Jane quilt top.  I'm so tempted to start sewing this together.
  2. The P.S. I Quilt Postage Stamp quilt.  I SHOULD work on this one just to finish it, but will see.  The pull of the Nicey Jane might be too strong.
  3. NICU donation quilt.  It also would be nice to get this finished since it's already cut out.
  4. Charity blocks.  I am making blocks for the Just One Star program and a cancer raffle quilt.
I will have to make up my mind if I want to work on my big projects or finish some tinies that are on my list.  Tune in Saturday to see what I decided to work on.  It's not too late to sign up!  Go to Heidi's blog if you are interested!

Happy Friday Night Sew in and have a great weekend!

Friday Night Sew-in Next Week!

I have already made my arrangements for next Friday!  The ziti is in the freezer, hubby has agreed to spend the evening with the boys, and my list of projects just keeps growing!  Honestly, it can't get here fast enough!

My reward for making it through my first week at home alone with the boys is an entire afternoon of free time for sewing tomorrow!  I can't wait, but don't worry I'll still have plenty to keep me occupied next Friday night!  Have a great weekend everyone!

Recap of Friday Night Sew-In

I had a great time participating in my first Friday Night Sew-in!  If you can find a way to make it happen at your house I highly recommend it.

I was able to accomplish quite a bit, but I didn't finish the Dr. Seuss quilt.  I realized once I started to baste it that the back really wasn't big enough, and as much as I hated to do it, I had to fix it.  In my continuing effort to use what I have, I used the left over bigger scraps from the top to piece the back.  So far I'm not crazy about it, but I think I will wait until it is completely finished to make a final judgement.  I am always amazed at how much the quilting adds to the quilt.  I will wait until it is complete to do the big reveal.

After working a little on that I decided to start working on another small project because I really need a new project.=)  My husband and I were talking about what we could do to thank the NICU staff for everything they have done for our family.  Not only is our son Graham residing there currently, but Hurst was born at 35 weeks, so he was there for a week after he was born.  Needless to say, we have a lot to be thankful for!  I have decided that I am going to make little quilts for the babies to have in their isolets during their stay in the NICU.  Once they go home the quilts will go with them as a reminder of time there.  My goal will be to have significant number to donate on both of the boy's birthdays.  Since the quilts won't be any larger than 30x30, I think these will be a good project for me to work on whilst caring for a newborn and a toddler (God help me!)

I used a set of four fat quarters I have had in my stash for a while and cut them into 5 inch squares.  I think they will become a deconstructed nine patch quilt.  Here they are pictured with a few white hexagons I cut out for this project.

These are not my most favorite fabrics in the world, but I think once they are cut up and assembled they will make a cute quilt.

Hope everyone has a fantastic quilty weekend!

Friday Night Sew-In

I am so excited to participate in my first ever Friday Night Sew-In.  Have you heard about it?  A whole bunch of fantastic quilters get their houses together, their families feed, then spend the rest of the night sewing away on works in progress.  Sounds like just the thing for me!  After a very long break from my sewing machine I hope to get my Dr. Seuss quilt basted and quilted tonight.  If you are interested in why I need it finished sooner rather than later, check out this blog post.  I probably won't be able to stay up as late as some, so I've decided to start a little early...wish me luck.
