This has actually been a good sewing week for me! Unfortunately, that has meant a lot of late nights, and very little housework. Oh well, I caught up yesterday. The house is nice and clean, and all of the laundry is washed and put away!! To celebrate I think I will finally stop procrastinating and quilt my Super Nova quilt.
While I have been sewing a lot, my quilting related ADD kicked in this week, and I have started two new projects! I started to reorganize my fabric closet this week, and I just had to sew with some of it.
Sadly, my two year old got his hands on our camera, so there will be no pictures of my progress so far. He is quite a destructive little guy! All I can do is tell you that I am working on a Christmas quilt out of a Fruitcake (Basic Grey) Jelly Roll and Charm pack I found way in the back of the closet (score!), and this quilt with my Pips! My advice for anyone this week who wants to sew with something new, but doesn't want to buy anything: go shopping in your stash!! It really worked for me this week!
Well, kind of: I did buy some solids to use for another new project...not so bad. Solids are a necessity in my book...

Sunday Stash Report
Well, I finally get to add some numbers to the Used this week column of my stash report! WooHooooo!
I finished my Super Nova quilt top, pieced the back, and cut out the binding. I've decide to just mark all of it as used! What a good feeling! Not only are my numbers starting to move in the right direction, but I will soon have another beautiful quilt to add to my collection!
Now on to my least favorite part of the quilting process: basting!! YUCK!

Added this week: 0 yards

WIP Wednesday
I'm happy to report that I actually have made some progress on my Super Nova Quilt.
I'm this close to a finished top.
If I can get the boys to nap at the same time I'll add the borders this afternoon. I'm eager to see it all together. One good thing about finishing this so much later than everyone else is I've had a chance to decide how I want to piece the back and quilt it. At least the planning stage is complete.
I've decided on a new project, and I'm hoping it will work out with Elizabeth's new quilt along. I'm making a quilt for the Army Baby Quilts organization. Volunteers make baby quilts for mothers who are expecting a baby while their husbands are serving in the Army overseas. As soon as I read about it I wanted to help. My father is a veteran of the Vietnam War and my oldest brother was born while he was serving. My mother always talked about how that was one of the hardest things she ever had to do. Not only was she worried sick about my dad, but to have a newborn on her own...I know I can't imagine!
The requirements are simple: baby quilts (at least 40 inches x 40 inches) made out of red, white and blue fabrics. I thought I could probably handle it.
I've had this pile of fabric sitting out hoping inspiration would strike.
They are all red, white and blue 1930's reproduction fabrics. I thought these would be cute for a baby. When I saw the announcement of the Kaleidoscope Quilt Along I thought it would be perfect. I hope this will work for the fabric requirements. I can't wait until Friday!

Kaleidoscope Quilt Along
The fantastic Elizabeth from Don't Call Me Betsy is hosting a quilt along. Her second of the year no less!
Even though I haven't finished the quilts from my first two QALs this year I am definitely in! It is so much fun to sew along with everyone else and watch everyone's progress! You still have time to decide since cutting instructions won't be given until June 23rd, so go check it out! It's gonna be fun!

Sunday Stash Report
So, I can't be hemmed in by rules!! Especially when it comes to new fabric lines that remind me of my childhood! My husband said he appreciated my new clever excuse. :)
When I saw the new Pooches and Pickups by Laurie Wisbrun I knew some of it would come to live in my house. My children and I must have a picnic quilt made out of this fabric for the summer!
I grew up in a tiny little town in southern Virginia, and the only thing to do in the summers was go to the pool. My father had an old red pickup truck exactly like the one in the fabric and he would drive us to the pool in it usually with our black lab in the back...see what I mean? This fabric was made for me! Of course, my father would find it hilarious that one of my favorite childhood memories is of that truck, I was always so embarrassed to ride in it!
So, I didn't reach my goal of not buying any fabric until the quilt show next weekend, but that's okay. I did go about three weeks with no purchases and that is pretty good for me!
And no, I still haven't finished my Super Nova quilt! I'm ashamed by how much I'm NOT getting accomplished lately!! I was making good progress earlier this week when disaster struck, and after that I lost steam. If anyone has any suggestions for removing crayon from a WIP please let me know! I was hoping to get some sewing time this weekend, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. We just have too much going on. Hopefully this week!

Help!
Anyone have any tips for removing crayon marks from the Kona Snow section of a quilt in progress?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions! If you need me, I'll be on my couch with a box of tissues debating with my husband about whether or not we should pay for Hurst to go to college!!
