Sunday Stash Report

I'm a little late posting today, but I've been taking advantage of both of the boys napping at the same time to sew.  Unfortunately, I didn't get very much sewing done this week.  Being the mom to two adorable little boys is turning out to be really time consuming!  That's okay; they are worth the lack of quilt production!

I was able to sew up a few more strip sets for the Postage Stamp Quilt this afternoon:

I can't wait to see this one come together!  I am in love with these fabrics!

I did have one small purchase this week.  I got a little stack of fat quarters from Sew Dearly Loved.  I have these in mind for a specific project, but I think these are great little basics I could use for something else.

I'm still going in the wrong direction, but at least I did get some sewing done today!

Used this week: 0 yards
Used year to date: 9 yards
Added this week: 1.5 yards
Added year to date: 52 yards
Net Used for the year: -43 yards.

I'm hoping to have a little more time to quilt this week (aren't we all), so we will see how the numbers look next Sunday!

Go to Judy's to see how everyone else is doing.

Stash Report #11

I've been a bad, bad girl...

I did get a lot of sewing done this week, but still no finishes yet.  Once I can make that happen I know my report will start moving in the right direction!

I am finding that trying to not buy fabric isn't working for me.  I think maybe a better approach might be to limit the number of projects I have going at one time.  One of my big purchases this week was for the Super Nova Quilt Along.  I bought nine yards of Innocent Crush because I've been eyeing that line since it came out and I think it will be perfect for the quilt.  I do feel a little guilty, but it will be beautiful!  Some things are just worth it!  I hope that I will have better luck finishing this project since I am quilting along with others, that's the plan anyway!

To celebrate National Quilting Day I went to one of my local shops who was having a great sale.  If I brought in an item for a local shelter I would receive 25% off my total purchase.  Fortunately for me I happened to have a large supply of the most needed item at the shelter: diapers!  It was a win-win situation: the shelter got a lot of diapers, and I was able to get rid of the ones that no longer fit Graham and I got a good discount!  I took advantage of this opportunity to buy basics like more Kona Snow and polka dots for bindings.

I am glad I was able to buy the fabric at a discounted price because fabric prices seem to have risen in my area already.  I noticed most of the fabric had gone up at least $2 a yard!  Yikes!  I will definitely have to start using what I have because it seems quilting is going to become a very expensive hobby!

Used this week: 0 yards
Used YTD: 9 yards
Added this week: 17 yards
Net Used YTD: -41.5 yards

Wow, I really need to get sewing!  It's only March and I've reached most people's goal number, but instead of 50 yards used, it's bought!  Oh well, it's been fun!

Super Nova Quilt Along Supplies

Look at my beautiful pile of Innocent Crush:

I think these paired with some Kona Snow will be perfect for the Super Nova Quilt!  I can't wait to start!  I hope I can keep up with everyone!

FNSI Results

Sadly, I didn't get a lot done last night for Friday Night Sew In.  I started at around 7:00 and by 8:00 my husband was calling for me from the basement because my toddler was sick.  Needless to say, instead of an evening of sewing it was an evening filled with vomit and tears...

My poor husband tried to handle it himself, but Hurst wanted his mommy.  I, of course, couldn't refuse him!

I did get a little accomplished though:

I cut out and started piecing my Just One Star block.

One more strip set for the Postage Stamp Quilt.  The good news is I'm a little more interested in working on this one.  Hopefully I'll have some time tonight after the little ones go to sleep.

Oh well, there's always next month!

Hope everyone else's evenings were a little more productive!

Friday Night Sew In

I can't believe it's already Friday!  Fridays are made even sweeter when it's Friday Night Sew In time!  I can't wait: no babies, no dishes, no cooking!  Just me and the sewing machine!

I have quite a few projects to work on this evening:

  1. I finally finished cutting out my Nicey Jane quilt top.  I'm so tempted to start sewing this together.
  2. The P.S. I Quilt Postage Stamp quilt.  I SHOULD work on this one just to finish it, but will see.  The pull of the Nicey Jane might be too strong.
  3. NICU donation quilt.  It also would be nice to get this finished since it's already cut out.
  4. Charity blocks.  I am making blocks for the Just One Star program and a cancer raffle quilt.
I will have to make up my mind if I want to work on my big projects or finish some tinies that are on my list.  Tune in Saturday to see what I decided to work on.  It's not too late to sign up!  Go to Heidi's blog if you are interested!

Happy Friday Night Sew in and have a great weekend!

WIP Wednesday #18

This weekend while looking through my project bin in my dining room, I found my stash of WIP's I had hidden while family and friends were coming to visit the new baby.  Wow, needless to say, I had forgotten about a couple of them.  I have decided to add them to the list, so that it doesn't happen again.

In Progress:

P.S. I Quilt Postage Stamp Quilt-Along

I am still plugging away on the strip sets for this one.  I love the fabrics and I know that I will love it when it's finished, but I'm bored with it.  I don't know why, I was so excited about this project when I started, but now blah.  I hate that.

NICU donation quilt

This is one of the forgotten projects that got buried in the box.  How on earth I can't manage to finish something so small I will never understand, but I have managed it!  All of the pieces are cut out I just need to sew it together.  Maybe I will work on it this weekend...

Purple and cream scrappy quilt

In an effort to use up my old calicos I pulled all of the purples to put into a scrap quilt.  That is as far as I got as far as working on it.

Since I can't seem to stop buying new fabric I am looking forward to using some of this up!

New Projects:

Nicey Jane quilt:

While playing around in my fabric closet this week, I pulled my Nicey Jane collection off the shelf and decided to start working with it.  I found a simple pattern I wanted to try in a McCall's Quick Quilts magazine from last year and thought these fabrics would work nicely.

I have started cutting out the pieces.  Hopefully I will have time to start piecing the blocks soon!  I haven't quite decided what to do with this quilt yet.  Maybe it will be a gift or maybe I will keep it for me, who knows?

Supernova Quilt Along

I couldn't resist the pull of this quilt along hosted by the lovely Lee.  I have enjoyed participating in WIP Wednesday so much I can't wait to start her QAL.  I am way over committing myself this month, but I have to make this quilt.  It is so beautiful!  I was going to use my Hope Valley fabrics, but I've decided I might try something else.  I still haven't quite made up my mind, but I am working on it.

Well, if you are still reading this thank you so very much!  I am going to hop off now and take advantage of the rest of nap time (they are both sleeping at the same time, HOORAY) and actually sew!

See everyone elses status here.

Hooray for Seuss

At long last I have finished the Dr. Seuss quilt and I LOVE it!  This fabric line is absolutely adorable!  I highly recommend it to anyone who loves Dr. Seuss or has a little one who loves Dr. Seuss!

I love the back!  I used the all over Cat in the Hat print to surround a print that displays characters from various books together.  So cute!

I did my usual squiggly lines for quilting.  I didn't take any close ups of the quilting because honestly, it's horrible!  I don't know what happened this go around, but machine quilting just wasn't working for me.  After several hours spent with the seam ripper I decided that good enough would just have to be good enough.

Besides, the most important thing is, I think he likes it!!

Ahhh, I am one happy and proud mama!

Supernova Quilt Along

Even though I have absolutely no business committing to another project, especially since I haven't finished my P.S. I Quilt Postage Stamp Quilt Along, I can't resist the Supernova quilt along that Lee is hosting!  I fell in love with this beautiful quilt as soon as I saw it and I was one of the people who begged her to show us how to make it!

So, here I go adding another new project to the list (my second this week), but oh I can't wait to start working on it!!   I think I'm going to be a giant copy cat and use my Hope Valley fabric just like Lee.

So, anyone else care to join me?  Come on, it'll be fun!!

Stash Report #10

I missed the last couple of stash reports, so I've decided to just combine them into one post.  I didn't buy any fabric this week, but the previous weeks I did do some shopping.  I am realizing that when it comes to my stash I don't have many basics, so I made a trip to the local quilt shop to fix that little problem of mine.  I bought at least three different Kona Cottons (the only one I can remember specifically is Bahama Blue).  I also picked up some red and aqua prints for a new project because I definitely need more projects!!

Used this week: 0
Used YTD: 9 yards
Added this week: 8 yards
Net Used for 2011: -24.5 yards

The good news is I have had a chance to do some sewing this week.  I finished the Dr. Seuss quilt, pictures forthcoming.  I am still working on the Postage Stamp Quilt, and I finally cut into my Nicey Jane stash.  Unfortnately, it is too early for me to count any of my fabric as used.  When I can the numbers will start moving in the right direction!!  To see how everyone else is doing check out Judy's blog.

Friday Night Sew-in Next Week!

I have already made my arrangements for next Friday!  The ziti is in the freezer, hubby has agreed to spend the evening with the boys, and my list of projects just keeps growing!  Honestly, it can't get here fast enough!

My reward for making it through my first week at home alone with the boys is an entire afternoon of free time for sewing tomorrow!  I can't wait, but don't worry I'll still have plenty to keep me occupied next Friday night!  Have a great weekend everyone!

WIP Wednesday #17

Hello everyone!  Another week has gone by way, way, way too quickly!  Where does the time go?  Unfortunately, not in front of my sewing machine!!

I did finally finish the Dr. Seuss quilt this week!  I will post pics as soon as I can take some decent photos.  It has been cloudy and rainy around here lately and I would really like to take some pictures of the quilt outside because the indoor shots are not doing it justice.

I have recently picked the Postage Stamp quilt back up so hopefully I will have a finished quilt top soon!

I saw this post from Elizabeth yesterday, and I realized that I need to get my act together and work on my 2011 goals!  Maybe I will be able to post progress on some those projects next week.

Here's hoping everyone else had very productive weeks!  Hop on over to Lee's blog to see everyone's progress!

Work in Progress Wednesday #16

I finally have some progress to report this week!  I am ALMOST finished with the Dr. Seuss quilt.  I started hand-sewing the binding on during nap time today.

Oh, how I love a stripey binding!  Love it!

As much as I love this quilt I will be so happy when it is finished!  I am so ready to move on to something else.  I hope to start working on my Postage Stamp quilt tomorrow.

I have loved having Hubby home helping with the boys, but all good things must come to an end, even paternity leave.  Next week, I will be a SAHM to TWO little boys (yikes!)  If anyone has any advice I would definitely welcome it!  We will have to see how much progress I make this coming week...

To see how everyone else is doing check out Lee's blog!
